Last night (May 6th) another 2009 yearling was admitted to ABR.  This female was captured at the Chimneys picnic area in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  She had been seen several times by visitors, and the park officials tried for a week to capture her.  Each time they thought they had her, visitors to the picnic area frightened her and she retreated up a hillside.  Finally they were successful and brought her to ABR, where she is adapting well to the habitat and the other bears.  This brings to 16 the number of bears in our care.

As we have cautioned many times before, people who are visiting in bear country should keep their distance, respecting bears and giving them plenty of space.
