Working On The Cub House

Comments are off

With the trenches finished and the first part of the fencing for Wild Enclosure #5 completed, the curators turned their attention to the renovation of The Cub House. Before any work can be done, though, the existing fencing around it had to be removed.

Surveying the Cub House to plan their work.
Work begins – starting to take the fencing down.
Everyone pitches in to help in the dismantling process.
Even the ceiling inside has to come down.
Fencing sections are put aside to be reused.
A popular feature in Wild Enclosure #4 is Summitt’s Branch, which has been popular with many cubs and yearlings, beginning with Summitt, himself.
Unfortunately, our Temp stand-in, Spud Bear, discovered that the branch had been broken during a recent windstorm. Future cubs and yearlings will have a much shorter branch on which to rest.

That is the update for today. We know that it isn’t as interesting to read about projects like this as to learn about what resident bears are doing, but since we don’t have any resident bears at present, this kind of update will have to do in the meantime. Hang in there, we are sure to have a bear within the next few weeks. The curators are glad to have this time to accomplish as much as they can.
