Two More Bear Cubs!

On May 18th ABR admitted two more bear cubs – #305 and #306. They were brought in by TWRA, having been found in Sevier County, TN. They are females, so will provide girl power to the cub population. Cub #305, nicknamed Raven, weighed 12 pounds at her UTCVM exam and her sister, nicknamed Chickadee, weighed 11.2 pounds.

Because Chickadee has ringworm, the curators planned to separate them, but that seemed to stress the little cubs too much, so the plan was changed. The cubs are together in the Red Roof Recovery Center.

This is where the two female cubs are housed until they are free of the ringworm fungus and also any intestinal worms.
How the two cubs were transported to ABR.

The curators installed a climbing structure and served bowls of formula.
The two sisters slept together , though it’s hard to see them up there in the corner.

In just three weeks time, ABR has admitted five cubs and one yearling. This is going to be a busy year!
