Two Cubs at ABR!

Comments are off

On the day that our yearlings were released, ABR received another bear! This is ABR #302 nicknamed Dumplin’ Bear, from Elizabethton,TN. He is a cub-of-the-year, just like Ferdinand, and is about 3 months old. Like Ferdinand, he weighed in at 6 pounds. After his exam at the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, where he was found to be relatively healthy, he was transported to ABR and is in another room of The Hartley House.

Dumplin’ Bear at UT, and his room in The Hartley House.

Here is the latest about both of these cubs.

Ferdinand is doing well. He eats his bear replacement formula.
Dumplin’ Bear didn’t venture out of his carrier for a while.
In the wee small hours of the morning, Dumplin’ came out to eat, deposit a tip for the curators, and then. . .
. . .he went back into his carrier to go back to sleep. In another day or two we’ll probably see him sleeping in his Cubby Bower or his cub cave.
This is the outside of The Hartley House, where the two cubs are residing.
And here is another view. As the photo shows, the space is temperature controlled and has lots of natural light via the windows.

We said “good-bye” to the four yearlings and “hello” to Cub #302 all at once, it seemed. Now we have these two tiny cubs to watch as they grow and develop through the next several months. Keep watching!
