New Digs for Piccola Bear

Comments are off

Piccola Bear is doing so well that the curators, with approval from the UT vets, moved her into an Acclimation Pen.  First, we see photos from the night before her move, as she slept in the Red Roof Recovery Center for the last time.

A bit later, and she has shifted position.

Another position change. She shows her rounding belly.

The curators devised a plan to move her.  They placed a large, heavy carrier by the gate .

Carrier placed at the gate of her pen. They hoped she would enter it.

Success! Piccola went inside and the curators lifted it up with her inside!

They had to prepare her new pen – Acclimation Pen #3.

The pool had to be filled.

Piccola Bear in her new home. Suddenly she has a lot more space and the ability to climb.

It will be good to see how she reacts to her new space.  Although she has gained 8 pounds since her arrival in mid-August, she is still too small to be introduced to the six rowdy cubs that are in Wild Enclosure #4.  Now that her dietary restrictions are lifted, she will no doubt gain weight even faster.  Whether she gets big enough to meet those other cubs remains to be seen.
