Learning By Watching

Comments are off

The ABR curators continually learn about bear cubs by observing them.  But while they do, the bear cubs are learning by watching the curators!  Otto and Rollo Bear are quick learners.  Although the two cubs don’t actually see the humans, their incredible senses of smell and hearing notify them whenever one of the curators comes near.  And, they have learned that when a curator comes nearby, it means a food delivery.

The cubs have also learned that before their food is delivered, the Acclimation Pen will be hosed out, so they stay put on their platform until the hosing is complete.  We have photos today that show Otto and Rollo just before food is placed in the pen.

There is Rollo, making his way toward Otto.

The clever cubs have waited until the food is delivered before they go down.

There is no doubt that Otto and Rollo Bear are clever cubs.  Bears are very intelligent animals, and the cubs use their observations of the curators to good advantage.
