Jessamine and Beignet

The two female yearlings seem to have bonded and enjoy each other’s company. They are together much of the time.

The two girls slept together on the platform.
They moved apart, with each bear on her own platform.
Later, they were back together, this time on the other platform.
At night, Jessamine pulled some leaves and branches off of the tree next to the platform.
Beignet came up to share the snacks. Yum yum!
When the two yearlings moved on, they left the “bones” from their snack behind. Shouldn’t they have cleaned up after themselves?

Bears eat quantities of greens, including leaves and grasses, in spring. Not much else is available in the wild until the berries arrive in another month or two. Even though our yearlings have access to food provided by the curators, their instinct to eat greens compels them to gather the natural foods. The curators often provide lettuce in spring, and it is a welcome addition to their regular meals.
