We have seen since the beginning of his stay in the Wild Enclosure that Hops Bear does not like to fully submerge in the Cubby Pool, even when other cubs are swimming. Although this is an unusual attitude for a bear cub, especially in hot weather like we’ve been having, we can remember another cub a few years ago who shared Hops’s reluctance to swim. Marvin Bear (a 2015 cub) was never seen in the pool, but he loved to play in the “stream” that flowed by when the curators filled the pool. Hops, however, has appropriated the drinking tub for his own private swimming pool, and we have a video that shows how he (and a couple of his friends) use this extra-small swimming pool.
