Hooray for Beignet!

The appointment for Beignet to return to the UT College of Veterinary Medicine was still a few days off, but the curators placed the carrier in her room at Hartley House, to get her used to it. They hoped she would nap inside, thus making it easier to capture her on the day of her appointment.

Beignet accelerated the schedule by getting inside right away! It’s almost as if she knew that doing so would shorten the time she had to stay confined.

To the curators’ surprise, Beignet didn’t take long to enter the carrier to take a nap.
Curator Ashley lowered the panel from outside the room, confining Beignet inside. Beignet was NOT happy and used “cubby cusswords” to voice her displeasure.

At UT, the vets proclaimed that her leg had healed. X-rays proved it.

Working quickly, they removed the pins from her leg.
She was also weighed – wow! – 63.5 pounds!
Soon she was ready to return to ABR.
Early the next morning, she was seen at the base of a tree in Wild Enclosure #3.
Beignet slept on the ground at the base of the tree.
She woke up and stuck out her long tongue.
Shifting position, Beignet went back to sleep.
Later, Beignet and the Triplets all napped on the platform.
Just like old times – Beignet and the Triplets foraged together.
The vets said she should exercise her leg, and Beignet is following their orders. Good bear!

We’re glad to see Beignet Bear back with the Triplets in the Wild Enclosure. Truth be told, we think she is very glad to be back outdoors again!
