Happy Birthday, Cubs!

Comments are off

September 22 is the “eight-month-birthday” for our bear cubs.  That’s because ABR designates January 22nd as the “official birthday” for all cubs who come to ABR for care.  Of course we don’t know their actual birth date, but January 22 is about the middle of possible dates in early January to early February.  So we celebrate each month on the 22nd and wish our cubs a happy birthday.

There is good news in terms of their interactions, too.  Though Apollo Bear has only been in the Wild Enclosure with Otto and Rollo for a few days, the three cubs seem to be getting along well and are foraging together, as these photos show.

Time to eat! Rollo and Otto set off to forage.

Rollo

Rollo found something tasty in the grass.

Otto is looking larger and rounder these days.

The three cubs are in hyperphagia and are eating as much as possible.

The curators are glad to see them foraging together.

They may or may not be sharing the same tree when sleeping at night.  No one has observed that as yet, but it’s good to see them close together while foraging.
