Finnegan

Happier News

After posting about Fergus’ death, we felt we needed to post some happier news.  Our remaining three-month-old cub, Finnegan, is doing well in The Cub House.  The curators are introducing him gradually to different foods, just as his mother would do in the wild.  At first he didn’t care for the blueberries they offered, but it seems he’s had a change of heart (or appetite) as these photos illustrate.

Finnegan tries the blueberries again.

Finnegan

He seems to like them, after all!

Finnegan eats all of the berries.

Meanwhile, out in the Wild Enclosure, Milo is still holding out against the tempting treats meant to lure him into the Acclimation Pen.  We think he remembers (bears do have excellent memories and are very intelligent animals) seeing other bears go in and not return.

Milo

This is as close as Milo has gotten to the treats in the Acclimation Pen.

Fortunately the curators are patient, and they will let him take as long as he wants to get ready for his release.  If only he knew that freedom is ahead of him maybe he would act differently.
