We found another list of things you should know if you encounter a bear.  This article is very specific about what you should know and do.  There is also a photo of a bear peeking out from behind a tree.  This is a very common behavior in bears, when they encounter a human.  Since they are basically shy and reclusive in nature, bears do not seek out humans, either to befriend or to attack.  They usually will leave us alone if we give them the same courtesy.
