The work on Enclosures #3 and 4 continues, although we probably will not use them for quite a while. The curators are working to complete the new platforms.
Curators Seth, Greg, and Jamie build a staircase to the platform.
Why stairs? To save wear and tear on trees. They hope the cubs will use the cubby staircase to get up and down.

Finishing the stairs.

The vigilant inspector Spud comes to check the work.
Next, they put firehose bumpers on the edges of the platforms.
Curator Katrina attaches the Kevlar skin of the firehose to the edges of the platform. This will give future little bears something to grip.
The firehose bumpers on the old platforms were popular with cubs like last year’s Scruffy, shown here as he worked to rip up the bumper.
As we can see, the ABR curators are keeping busy renovating the enclosures for future bears! When a cub or yearling needs help, we’ll be ready for them!
