We have a NEW resident yearling! She goes by the name of “Little Bit”! Little Bit Bear is about 15 months old, and weighs only 13 pounds. National Park Officers rescued her from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and took her to the University of Tennessee’s Veterinary Medical Center for the treatment of a very nasty animal bite to her snout. There, she received fluids and antibiotics, and w…as transported to ABR’s brand-new Cub Nursery (provided by ABR’s generous friends!) Little Bit is convalescing in the nursery, living in the HRH 4000 carrier (provided by ABR’s generous friends!). Soon, she’ll move to a larger cage close by. At this stage, it’s important to keep her hydrated, on antibiotics, fed, and fly-free (flies lay their eggs in open wounds). She’s eating well, and demonstrating the spirit that has kept her alive this long in the wild. We hope that with care and time, she’ll be well enough to go back there.
