With the bears gone, we will be focusing on the work of the curators to prepare the facility for the class of 2025.Although we’ve seen what they do when cubs are onsite to care for, the work now is different.
One task is the collection of branches and loose brush that will be useful in burning the enclosures to kill any lingering bacteria.
Curator Tom and a representative from Stanley Fencing discuss the plans to extend the fencing in Enclosures #3 and 4.
Curator Greg removes the soft fabric from the inside of the fencing. It will have to be burned.
Curator Jamie removes the fabric from another section of fencing. The yellow arrow in the distance shows how far it goes. There’s a lot to remove!
Back in the ABR office, the curators work on the facility rehabilitation plan.
They also update the Bear Data Base. to include the records of our most recent releases.
This is the proposed expansion of Wild Enclosures #1 and #2. The fences will be extended so that ultimately there will be just one, much larger enclosure: WE#1 and WE#1B. Cubs will spend a couple of weeks in #1 and then move to #1B so curators can clean #1. In this way, we should be able to prevent the spread of any bacteria.
One last bear photo that was found when the Bear Data Base was updated. Here is Scruffy Bear up a tree. He was so chubby he looks like a bowling ball wedged in the fork of the tree!
