Cubby Birthday! - Appalachian Bear Rescue

ABR has chosen January 22 as the official birthday of every cub and yearling bear who comes our way. This date is approximately in the middle of the possible dates, since bear cubs are born between January and mid-February. That means that on May 22nd, our yearlings turned 16 months old and the cubs had their 4-month birthday.

Happy sixteen-month birthday to our four yearlings! Now is the time when their wild cousins are being chased away by their mothers. It’s Family Breakup time. Of course, our yearlings have been on their own for quite a while already. They are doing well and “chubbifying” as they should.

Meanwhile, the cubs are having their four-month-old birthday. They are creating as much chaos as they possibly can, and having fun doing it.

The cubs are busy at all hours, enjoying the opportunity to socialize, play, climb, and wrestle.

Everyone had a happy birthday, even though they didn’t realize it was a milestone for them. They are all doing very well.
