Carter Bear – and Another Pool Party

Comments are off

Today we have some more of designated photographer, Ken LaValley’s photos of the cubs.  Recently you saw the comparison between his professional camera and the curators’ much smaller one.  These photos were taken with Ken’s equipment.

Carter Bear, who usually remains in the trees and is very hard for curators to spot, came down on the ground.  Ken was able to get great shots, using his mega-zoom lens.

Carter came down from his tree but stayed close to it.

Bear cubs react quickly to any disturbance.  Something caused Carter to jump back up on the tree trunk.  A tree represents safety to a little bear cub.

Something startled him and he jumped back on the tree.

Meanwhile, in another Wild Enclosure, the three “buddies” – Bonnie Blue, Ridgeway, and Marvin visited their pool again.  It has been hot here (in the 90s) and the water must feel good to the cubs.

Marvin still doesn’t enter the water with the others, but the curators say he likes to splash around while staying right next to the pool.

The final photo for today shows food that the curator has thrown over the fence to the cubs.  Ken stopped the motion, so it looks like it is raining food.  The curators move around the enclosure and scatter food in different places as well as at different times.  They don’t want the cubs to expect food at a certain place or time.

It’s raining food for the cubs!

We never know what to expect.  What will tomorrow bring??
