Busy Bear Cubs

Comments are off

Each day brings something new in the enclosures. The cubs are free to plan their own days and nights, and that’s what they do.

Flicker doesn’t look like a “little” bear cub now! He lies on the ground, showing off his rotund tummy. A bear must feel very safe to expose this vulnerable part of himself.
Raven seems to be wondering if she should climb the tree.
Where are you going, Sunflower? She’s thinking it over.
She poses to show off her chonkiness. What a fine-looking bear!
Although it’s very chilly, these cubs don’t mind – they are having a pool party in their Wild Enclosure.

Now we have a series of photos that show a group of cubs and how they sleep (or don’t) during the night.

The cubs group themselves according to – ? – whatever suits them.
An hour or so later, they are all at one end of the platform.
Still later, there is just one cub left on the platform. The others have gone to forage for a midnight snack.
Some of them return, but now the grouping is different.
They continue to move around as the night goes on.
Another shift occurs.
This was the grouping just before they got up to go down for breakfast.

They are busy, even during the night. It’s OK, though, they can plan their days and nights, eat when they want and sleep when they want. And that is exactly what they do. We just get to enjoy watching them.
