Bud Bear, Interior Decorator

Our yearling in the Hartley House, the injured Bud Bear, is being cooperative about his confinement. A young bear is not used to being confined, especially in a building, but Bud has been a very patient patient, at least so far. He has the use of all three rooms in the Hartley House and can move from one to the other as he wishes. Bud has shown interest in redecorating his rooms, moving his “furniture” around to suit himself. The “furniture” is sparse, because he must be prevented from climbing, so there are none of the usual climbing structures that encourage the younger cubs to climb and develop their strength.

Some bears don’t care for their beds, but Bud uses his often. The two pieces of wood are the remains of a “beary sandwich.”
Here is a blue-beary sandwich, ready to be put together. Yummy bear food inside a split small log!
Bud has a treat toy that he likes to roll around, causing the treats to come out.
Curator Coy cleans one of Bud’s rooms. Bud’s confinement means more work for curators.
Coy left the room neat and tidy. But note where the treat toy is.
It appears that Bud doesn’t like to have the treat toy on his bed. Note – the new beary sandwich has been eaten!
Bud has to redesign the layout of his room.
He moves the treat toy away from his bed.
After rearranging his furniture to suit himself, Bud went to sleep on the floor!

We are sure that he will use the bed again, but it’s amusing to see him move and rearrange things and then not use them. Go figure – he’s a bear! We have had bears in the past who tore up their beds, getting stuffing all over the room. At least Bud seems to be taking care of his possessions.
