Oh no!  This is a photo of the damage done Saturday night by a wild bear at ABR.  This is one of the recently completed metal buildings, being used for dry storage of acorns.  A bear was seen crossing the property near the buildings early in the evening.  On Sunday morning, we discovered this damage, and suspect that the bear we saw was the “perp.”  No doubt the bear’s super-sensitive nose led him or her to the building where all those acorns, donated by friends of ABR, were being stored and dried.  As you can tell, it was no problem for the bear to rip apart the wall of the metal building – just like opening a tin can!  This demonstrates what we have often said about the strength of a bear.  By the way, the bear we saw was not a full grown bear, but was a sub-adult, probably 2-3 years old.

The bear was not greedy – it just pulled out  one large tray of the tasty acorns, ate them, and moved on.  However, we will alter our storage method for acorns, and we are requesting that no more acorn donations be made this year.
