Examination of a cub

Dr. Ramsey, our veterinarian from the University of Tennessee made a “house call” the other day, to give Bennie and Jerry their first checkup. He examined both of them very carefully, and pronounced them healthy and strong. Each of them weighed just under 3 pounds – that’s a good weight for cubs that are so young. Here are some photos that were taken during the health examinations. Notice the claws on those little feet – they can do some serious damage to human skin which, unlike the skin and fur of a bear mother, is pretty fragile.

What now?

At the end of the examination, Dr. Ramsey gives advice and the results to Curator Coy.  We were all glad that the exam went so well.  Our little cubs are healthy and will thrive with the good care they receive at ABR.
