Bear Cubs Meet Snow

Although there may have been snow on the ground when our cubs were born last winter, they would have been snug in dens and by the time they came out, it was early spring. So they had never experienced snow in their world. That is, until it snowed here in Tennessee on November 12th. That is early for us to get snow, but the Arctic air mass swept down and here is what happened at ABR. We start with nighttime photos before the snow, when the cubs were just bedding down. The temperature was around 60.

Time to get some shut-eye.
Dandelion sleeps peacefully.

Then, during the night – it snowed!

Marigold paws at the strange white stuff on the platform.
The cubs are mystified. What is this?
One cub decided to view from above.
Beignet and Boudreaux don’t know what to make of this cold, white stuff.
Two Beary Triplets carry on with wrestling, as usual.
Beary Triplets don’t seem to mind the snow.

This was quite an adventure for our little bears. The snow won’t last more than a couple of days, but it provided a novel experience for the cubs and an insight into the lives of young bears in a situation we’d never observed before.
