Apollo Bear, the injured cub who arrived about ten days ago, is making very good progress. He exemplifies the amazing recuperative ability of bears. Of course, he did have help from the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, where his broken leg was repaired with plates in both the radius and ulna, and he’s had pain meds and antibiotics and a safe, quiet place to rest and sleep at ABR. However, he is still an example of fast healing. At first he was very lethargic and sleepy – all he did was sleep and eat a little. That has changed now – he is walking from one “room” in his pen to the other and has chosen a new place to sleep.

Apollo moved from the floor of his pen to the cushy bed.

The curator was happy to see that Apollo had produced some scats.

The cleaned out side of Apollo’s pen. He was still in the other side.
As soon as the room was ready, Apollo stood up and walked into the clean side. He started to eat from his food bowl.

Apollo shows his “good” side. The injured leg is the right front.
Apollo is going to continue to get stronger as he eats the nutritious food provided to him.
Outside in the Wild Enclosure, the other two cubs are getting strong and healthy.

Rollo struts through the enclosure.

Otto joins Rollo to forage.

Time out! The cubs stop to play

Back to the business at hand – foraging!
As you can see, all is well with the cubs at ABR.
