Another Patient; And Photos

Another cub patient is in Hartley House. Raven Bear was limping the other day, and Ranger Ryan from the GSMNP came to help the curators capture her for a trip to the veterinary school at UT. X-rays showed no broken bones, which was a good thing! They gave her a course of Meloxicam and a long-lasting antibiotic to treat a slightly swollen lymph node. Then she came back to ABR and will spend a few days in Hartley House until the curators are satisfied that her leg is OK. She was weighed at UT and tipped the scale at 87.5 pounds!

Yearling Dahlia has become comfortable with entering the Acclimation Pen to eat. She seems to be guarding the peanuts in the food wheel.
Dahlia looks very healthy and plump.
She went under the platform to rest (or to hide from the other yearlings).
One of the Rainbow Triplets. Where are the other two?

ABR photographer, Ken LaValley, came by to take some photos of the bears. These may well be the last “official” portraits before their releases.

Dumplin’ has chonked up very nicely!
Ferdinand is not like the tiny, 6-pound cub found in a pasture back in April.
Just like the other cubs, Harlan had grown big and strong.
Boomer Bear is suspicious of humans, as well he should be.
Sunflower, our one-eared bear, is looking very healthy.
Raven (before her trip to the vet) and Sunflower – two big, healthy cubs.

We will hope to have more of Ken’s amazing images next time. It’s easy to see that the cubs are chunky, plump, and ready to go back to the wild.
