A Tasty Snack!

A few days ago, Curator Quanah observed Barley Bear finding a snake in the grass near the Acclimation Pen, where the four cubs were playing and flipping rocks to find insects underneath them. At first, Barley jumped back, startled, but after swatting at the snake with a front paw, which either stunned or killed the snake, he took it away and had himself a nice snack.

All four cubs looked under rocks, trying to find snakes/snacks of their own.
Cubs on the hunt. We’re not sure if there were any more snakes, but Hops did find a discarded snake skin, which was a snack for him.
This is a photo of the kind of snake Barley had found. A non-venomous variety; these are seen frequently.

We have said before that the cubs often find special treats in the enclosures that naturally occur there. These extras are in addition to the bountiful foods that the curators toss out for them.
