A Laid-Back Yearling

Bud Bear is one of the most laid-back bears we’ve ever seen at ABR! It’s a very good thing, since he needs plenty of rest to recover from his broken leg. Bud is the star of today’s post.

Bud Bear sleeps on his bed. He seems to use the bed about half the time and sleep on the floor the other half.
Bud hears Curator Coy in the room next door, and in good cub fashion he blusters and blows, to let Coy know who is boss!
Coy finishes the cleanup and leaves a bowl of food in the spotless room.
Bud starts to eat, immediately spilling the food on the (formerly) clean floor.
Bud is finished for now. He leaves, and the floor needs cleaning again.
An annotated photo that shows Bud and his bowls.
Bud approaches his deep, weighted water bowl. What’s next?
Uh-oh! A yearling is strong! The “anti-tipping device” is no match for him!
Over it goes, spilling the water out on the floor and making another mess for a curator to clean up.
Bud has created two messes. Not surprising, since bowls are totally foreign to bears!

Bud still has to remain in the Hartley House until the UT vets judge him to be sufficiently healed. When he goes out he will be able to climb trees and platforms. As you know, he can’t climb in his present accommodations, per the vets orders.

Stay tuned to see him as he continues to recover.
