VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
A volunteer should understand the mission of ABR : To rehabilitate orphaned and injured bears to release back into the wild; to educate the public about black bears and the regional threats facing them; and to research bear attributes which may help solve other environmental or health related issues.
A volunteer should remain neutral on issues pertaining to bears and hunting.
A volunteer should read and understand the volunteer manual.
A volunteer should be knowledgeable about the natural history and needs of bears and appropriate interactions with humans.

1. EDUCATION VOLUNTEERS
a. Tabling at community events: educating the public about ABR and about bears in general; answering questions about bears; explaining display items; playing bear educational games with children.
b. Presenting PowerPoint programs to civic organizations and other groups.
c. Presenting school programs, including “Adopt-a-Cub.”
2. DONATION JAR VOLUNTEERS
a. Finding businesses that are willing to display an ABR donation jar.
b. Placing jars and monitoring donations at least monthly, replacing brochures as needed.
c. Making deposits to Mountain National Bank and reporting amount deposited to volunteer coordinator.
3. FOOD COLLECTION VOLUNTEERS
a. Coordinate with curator as to where and when to pick up donated bear food items.
b. Collect donated food items and deliver to prearranged site.
4. FUNDRAISING VOLUNTEERS
a. Work with Fundraising committee to plan and execute fundraising ideas and events.
5. CONSTRUCTION AND LABOR AT ABR FACILITY
a. Carpentry skills, plumbing skills, landscaping skills, electrician’s skills.
b. Willingness to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
